Commercial building
Inserted in the old city centre of Regensburg, this fabric store takes up one side of the historical St Cassian's Square. The development occupies the entire area of the site, the trapezoidal shape of which therefore determines the footprint of the building. This geometry is echoed in the three-dimensional form by the raking eaves line of the clearly defined double-pitched roof.

Broad areas of glazing afford views of the sales spaces within; but at the top of these openings one sees that the steel-framed glazing is drawn over a concrete load-bearing structure. The facade consists of slabs of broken Muschelkalk with rough edges and is articulated into long, narrow strips, thereby reflecting the appearance of the surrounding buildings. The rough surface is strikingly contrasted with the smooth, reflecting areas of shop-window glazing in slender frames.
A legible layering of concrete, stone and glass. Set flush with the surface of the wall, the shop windows are integrated into the overall volume and offer a stage for changing fashion. The modern interpretation of the building as a monolithic volume creates a sense of identity and at the same time integrates the structure homogeneously into the unique cityscape of Regensburg.
