Two-Field Sports Hall Location Trier-West, Germany
Task of the competition was to realise different types of sports halls (one-, two- and three-field halls) at different locations in Trier. The developed design concept provides for a sustainable modular system. The construction kit consists of prefabricated wall and roof elements. Wood, which comes in two basic geometric elements, bar and plate are assembled as components of the building kit.
On the reinforced concrete floor panel created onsite, the wooden elements are mounted as roof, column and wall elements with a more visible, linear construction grid on the facade and hall ceiling. The precisely prefabricated elements can be erected almost independently of the weather and in a very short time. The decision to separate the hall and ancillary room construction as well as the single-storey design allows the addition of additional changing rooms for the outdoor sports areas or the omission of rooms, for example, in the single-field sports hall of the concept stage.
Wood as a building material is suitable for this construction task in all aspects: wood creates a pleasant room climate in the interiors; the outer skin made of Douglasie formwork is economical both in construction and operation. The clear geometric zoning of open and closed elements optimally supports the implementation as a modular system. Natural lighting and ventilation create a pleasant atmosphere for sports and games. The single-storey buildings, without basement, are divided into two parts: A sports hall and an adjoining side wing.
