Daycare center for six groups
The playground and lawn are located in front of the day kindergarten. The building and the gymnasium adjacent to it on the south side provide a screen hiding the street which borders the kindergarten on the north side. A beautiful, green central area is left for the children to use. The kindergarten is located near the street, and presents itself in a closed-off fashion with several small windows and two high weather-protected outer foyers, which form a generous entrance.
A number of vertical Douglas fir planks encase the house on the street side, and the lawn side of the building is completely glazed. The pergola meets the requirements for fire safety, enabling all the group rooms to have direct access to the outside. Its appearance is enriched by the fine details of the floor areas with their close meshed grating and narrow supports, and it also serves as necessary outer sun protection for the glass façades.
The wooden shutters provide shade, and ensure a homely atmosphere thanks to light filtering through their fine slits. Vertical light and free spaces in front of the row of classrooms divide the long hallway and connect the different levels of the two-storey kindergarten to one another. A small, hidden atrium on the street side serves both as an outdoor area and as a recreation room for the kindergarten’s staff.
